Back in the Black Again!

Ok, so we had broken even with our loss on SCR. Last week we bought FNI at $0.89 and sold for $0.93, netting $60 after commission. So now we are up at total of $60.

Monday morning I plan to put 5 buy orders in and so am currently going through my list of picks and doing some research. I will post my sells on Sunday night.

Sold all three holdings, 2 at a profit, one at a loss

Yesterday we sold CHR at $0.17 for a profit. We also sold BRW at $1.72 for a profit. SCR was sold at a loss for $1.41.

The loss for SCR was more than the gain for the other two combined. We waited too long to sell but we won't do that again.

My First Trades

From now on I will tell you about my buys and sells as I do them but just to catch you up....

I started with BWR, a good metal stock. Bought 1,000 shares at $1.69 and sold at $1.75. This net $60. Subtract the buy and sell, I was left with $40. Small I know, but just wanted to get my feet wet.

Next I bought 300 shares of VRS at $4.19 and sold at $4.50, netting us with $73 after commissions. My husband actually sold it a bit earlier than I wanted and it is went up quite a bit after it.

It was after this that I implemented the don't look at something after we have just sold it rule. This is imperative to follow if you wish to stay sane.

So we were happy, up close to $120 and then.......I'm sure you can see where this is going....we bought SCR at $1.69 and in a few days it fell to $1.44. It is a solid company which I think will rebound but I don't want to tie up my money for a long period of time. If we sell, the loss will put us in the red. I've gotta think about this one this weekend.

Our two other holdings are doing well, we own CHR which we bought at $0.14 and bought back into BWR at $1.65.

Getting Started

1. Finding a Brokerage

My goal is to get in and out of stocks quickly, with minor gains that will add up quickly, so I don't want all of my profits eaten up in commisions. I was sick of paying $29.95 per trade through TD Waterhouse so I transferred it to Trade Freedom. They charge just under $10 a trade. So far I have been happy with them. I find they execute my trades much faster than TD did and the customer service is great. I will keep you posted. If things don't work out through themI will switch to another brokerage.

2. Researching companies

I plan to trade mostly penny stocks. I have always bought blue chip companies. Penny stocks are new to me, so I have started doing some reasearch on various sites.

I recommend:

www.smallcaps.ca

www.moneysense.ca the Csn stocks under $2 forum and
